Water woes for the Jefferson County town of Ryan continue on Friday as residents there brace for a potentially long weekend without water.
This after a major water main break causes the town to lose a majority of its water.
Ryan residents have been under a mandatory boil order for over two weeks now due to water samples testing positive for for E.coli and now the main break has Ryan officials scrambling to get water back online.
Ryan City Clerk Kathy Laskowski says the city is totally without water at this moment.
Laskowski says around 8 a.m. on Friday, a major water main break caused the town to lose a majority of its water.
She says officials with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality made the decision to empty the towers.
"We had about 15 minutes notice that we were going to be without water at the time they decided to shut down the towers," Laskowski says.
Ryan residents have had to boil their water since July 10 after water samples tested positive for E.coli but DEQ officials were looking at ending the order after new tests showed the water was safe from contaminants.
Laskowski says, "They were here to give us advice on lifting the boil advisory today at that time we had the main line break and so that has all been put on hold. It's definitely a setback for the city."
Residents like Jessica Taylor say the town's water problems over the last month are nothing less than frustrating.
"I'm just trying to keep my patience," Taylor says. "Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. That's all I can say. Hopefully it will be fixed soon and things will go back to normal."
It's a problem Laskowski says they are trying to fix as fast as possible.
"We've had a lot of people who've been working on it all day long and will be working on it into the night to try and get it up and running as quickly as possible," Laskowski says.
Until that happens, she says companies have offered to bring water to town.
She says that water will be distributed from city.
