Nocona Hopes to be Dubbed "Most Fun Small Town"

Nocona is named a top five finalist in a competition to be called the "most fun small town" in the nation.
It's not what you would call a metropolis a town of only 3,000.

But those in Nocona say their population is no representation of just how much fun there is to be had there.

From Pete and Barbara Horton's collection of classic cars, in mint condition on display in museums, to the amazing trails and tales museum, to Nocona's rich history that's still being made.

“Nocona was the leather capital of the southwest for many years it was what it was known as, mainly because of the Nocona Athletic Goods which has the last American made baseball glove plus Nocona boots and Justin's boots started here in Montage County,” said Shannon Gillette, a board member at the Tails and Trails Museum.

Nocona has been named one of the top five "most fun small towns" by Rand McNally and now they're battling to be called number one.

In fact, the weekly pep rally was caught on a high flying camera as part of the town's video submission for the final vote.

“People here have a good time and we just want to highlight that and show that Nocona is a place to come.”

“You don't normally have a girl that would walk around with a headdress.”

9th grader Jordan Dingler says the small town atmosphere of Nocona and supportive nature of the people allows her to fully embrace who she is and the fact Nocona's not busy with distractions is why Joni Coursey made the move here from Fort Worth two years ago.

“Here we have to get creative and you really learn to appreciate the small things and have fun with the small things,” said Coursey.

Just like everyone else in Nocona, who's hoping those small, fun things will help them get noticed, as the most fun small town in American.

The winner of the competition will be announced on October 7th.

And if you think Nocona should win you can help, a half of the judging is based on social media communication.
