WHEN YOU'RE A PATIENT AT UNITED REGIONAL YOU RECEIVE SPECIAL CARE FROM FOLKS WHO DON'T ALWAYS HAVE DOCTOR OR R.N. IN FRONT OF THEIR NAMES...IN FACT THEY'RE NOT EVEN EMPLOYEES OF THE HOSPITAL.
BUT THAT TEAM OF 300 PEOPLE DONATES MORE THAN 28-THOUSAND HOURS IN A GIVEN YEAR.
FOR SERVING PATIENTS AND VISITORS FOR SEVERAL DECADES WE HONOR NOVELLA FRANCES WITH THIS MONTH'S SPIRIT OF TEXOMA AWARD.
Novella Frances says, "I feel like we all have a talent and mine is service to others and this has been a wonderful place to be able to do that."
FROM THE MOMENT NOVELLA STEPS ONTO THE UNITED REGIONAL CAMPUS SHE'S READY TO SERVE HERE AT THE GIFT SHOP.
Novella comments, "This was my first love and I just decided to volunteer all of my time here."
EVEN WHEN SHE'S NOT BEHIND THE REGISTER NOVELLA TRIES TO SELL YOUNGER FOLKS ON JOINING THIS VOLUNTEER TEAM.
She says, "I'm feeling now you see more people my age and we really need young people. We need young ladies out there to come and volunteer and start like I did and I've enjoyed it and I know they would too."
NOVELLA STARTED 38 YEARS AGO AND HAS MADE A LOT OF GOOD FRIENDS WHILE VOLUNTEERING.
THEY STAY BUSY HELPING CUSTOMERS FIND THAT SPECIAL SOMETHING, STOCKING READING MATERIAL,AND BLOWING UP BALLOONS FOR CUSTOMERS.
THE BEARER OF THIS IS SURE TO BRING A SMILE TO A PATIENT...AND THIS "IT'S A GIRL" BALLOON WILL BRIGHTEN THE DAY OF A MOTHER WITH A PREMATURE BABY.
Novella explains, "They may have a child here in the hospital who is ill and they need to talk. It is just being here and listening to them and putting an arm around them and just loving them and letting them know that we care and we do care here at United Regional."
AND NOVELLA SAYS IF JUST ONE PERSON IN A DAY SAYS "THANK YOU" IT'S WELL WORTH HER TIME.
IT'S CERTAINLY WORTH EVERY PENNY THEY BRING IN TOO, SHE SAYS BY SELLING GIFTS TO OTHERS YOU GET SO MUCH MORE IN RETURN.
Novella says, "I just enjoy what I do and I enjoy people and I think that is why I am here and I have been here this long. It's a wonder they haven't booted me out."
SHE'LL KEEP WALKING THROUGH THESE DOORS FOR YEARS TO COME, AND GIVING TO OTHERS IN THE GIFT SHOP.
NOVELLA TRULY HAS THE SPIRIT OF TEXOMA.
ALTHOUGH NOVELLA DOES SPEND MOST OF HER TIME VOLUNTEERING IN THE GIFT SHOP SHE ALSO HELPS WITH SPECIAL EVENTS, SUCH AS UNIFORM AND JEWELRY SALES AT UNITED REGIONAL.
OWENS AND BRUMLEY FUNERAL HOMES CONGRATULATE NOVELLA FOR GIVING BACK SO MANY YEARS.
AND IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO TRULY DESERVES THIS AWARD...PLEASE NOMINATE THEM NOW.
