Officer Accidentally Shoots Woman in Lawton

A woman was wounded during an officer involved shooting over the weekend in Lawton
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, shortly before 2am Sunday morning, officers with Lawton PD responded to the Gate 4 Recovery Room night club in the 2700 block of NW Sheridan.

Authorities said a crowd of around 300 people had gathered in the parking lot, and officers reported hearing a gun shot.

The OSBI said officers approached the man they believed fired the shot and ordered him to lower his gun.

That's when the officer who fired his weapon said he shot one time, but missed the subject.

The bullet traveled through a nearby vehicle and struck 24-year-old Jerry Ann Short in the chest.

Short was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

The subject who police said fired the first shot fled the scene.
