OK Congressman Learns of Plans to House Illegal Immigrants at Fort Sill

Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole says he is astonished and angry that he learned of an Obama Administration plan to house illegal immigrants at Fort Sill from unofficial sources and was never consulted before the decision was made.

Cole says as early as next Tuesday, Fort Sill will begin housing 600 or more unaccompanied minors who illegally immigrated to the U.S., mostly from Central America.

Hundreds are also being housed now at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He says the number of these immigrants has grown from 6,000 in 2011 to 66,000 last year. The minors are ages 13 to 17 so they can not be housed in detention facilities.

Cole says the Obama Administration did not give notification to Oklahoma legislators or state and local officials about the plan.

He says the plan is an inappropriate use of a military facility and will strain the post's resources intended for service people. And he says if the plan includes releasing the youth to family members or into the foster care system, it will be defacto amnesty.
