A Texoma restaurant now boasts a state award winning manager.

Arrin Plowman, manager of Parkway Grill on Southwest Parkway, one of three restaurants owned by his family, was presented with an award in Houston Sunday for being an outstanding manager.

Arrin has been working in the family business for more than 14 years, starting out as a dishwasher and working his way through almost every job, including bar tending, book keeping and cooking.

Plowman says being presented an outstanding manager award by the Texas Restaurant Association makes him feel like his hard work has paid off.

“It feels great. It's always nice to be appreciated or be shown that you're doing a really good job. I’ve worked in this industry a long time,” says Plowman.

That experience has helped him make a name for himself in the restaurant industry, as he's always trying to find new ways to improve the family business.

“Trying to modernize the way we do inventories and ordering and that kind of thing just to keep track of stuff, get it moved from pen and paper way to more electronic,” says Plowman.

Improvements aren't the only thing that makes plowman stand out.

He says he thinks being the first in the state to start the Round it up for America program helped him win the award.

“You pay with a credit card, there's a line that says Round it up for America, you can donate 15 cents or 5 dollars. You know it doesn't matter which one you do, but what that actually does is it goes to three local charities here in town,” says Plowman.

That money goes to Relay for Life, The Red Cross, the Food Bank and the Boy Scouts of America.

But despite his accomplishments, Plowman says he could not have won the award without his staff and the support of his family.

“I have a great staff I work with everyday. Had great mentors for the people I work for. Like I said, it's helped me grow through my career,” says Plowman.

A career that Plowman says has been a lot of work but has always been worth it.

Two other Parkway employees won local Restaurant Association Awards.

Kevin McKinney won for back of house and Hannah Walters won for front of house.
