Pat Haywood has the Spirit of Texoma

For her dedication to so many in Texoma Pat Haywood is this month's Spirit of Texoma Award winner.

THE LATE STATE SENATOR TOM HAYWOOD SPENT SEVERAL YEARS SERVING RESIDENTS OF TEXOMA IN AUSTIN AND BEFORE THAT MANY MORE YEARS REPRESENTING NORTH TEXAS OIL INTERESTS.
AND FOR ALL THOSE YEARS  HE HAD A VERY ABLE ASSISTANT  BY HIS SIDE...            ONE WHO STILL GIVES SO MUCH TO  TEXOMA.
AND FOR HER DEDICATION WE ARE HONORING PAT HAYWOOD WITH THIS MONTH'S SPIRIT OF TEXOMA AWARD.
FROM STOCKING AND SACKING THE FOOD PANTRY AND HOSTING LUNCHEONS AT INTERFAITH MINISTRIES  ...TO COOKING FOR STUDENTS OF THE CHRISTIAN WOMENS JOB CORP,  PAT HAYWOOD STAYS BUSY SERVING OTHERS.
PAT'S SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY BEGAN NEARLY FOUR DECADES AGO WHEN SHE AND HER HUSBAND MOVED TO WICHITA FALLS  IN 1971.

Even when I was teaching and working I've always enjoyed volunteering and felt like even though you have a job you could find something to do with your spare time that makes a difference to other people.

ESPECIALLY THE YOUNGER MEMBERS OF TEXOMA...PAT IS A PEN PAL WITH KIDS FROM SOUTHERN HILLS ELEMENTARY AND STILL SERVES AS A SUSTAINING ADVISOR FOR THE JUNIOR LEAGUE'S KIDS IN THE KITCHEN PROGRAM.
EVEN YEARS AFTER RETIREMENT THIS LONG TIME EDUCATOR SAYS KIDS ARE STILL THE APPLES OF HER EYE.

I've always been interested in children so if there is a volunteer opportunity that is going to help families with their children maybe have a better life, it's going to help something that has to do with children like mentoring or something like that I want to do it.

WHICH IS WHY SHE SPENDS TIME READING TO CHILDREN AT THE COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE CENTER...AND ALSO SPENT SIX YEARS AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS AT MSU
SHE EARNED SEVERAL DEGREES FROM THE UNIVERSITY AND WAS HONORED LAST YEAR WITH THE ARTHUR F. BEYER DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD.

I'm just real excited to be part of and be honored in that way.

PAT SAYS THE RECOGNITION IS NICE...BUT SHE FEELS THE TRUE REWARDS COME FROM GIVING TO OTHERS.

I just encourage other people to get involved as volunteers in the community because you'll benefit from it even more than the people that you serve, that you do it for.

IF THAT IS TRUE,  BOTH PAT AND TEXOMA HAVE A WEALTH OF  BENEFITS
FROM A LIFETIME OF  SHARING THE SPIRIT OF TEXOMA.
OWENS AND BRUMLEY FUNERAL HOMES CONGRATULATE PAT ON HER AWARD FOR GIVING TO SO MANY IN TEXOMA.
AND IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO TRULY DISPLAYS THE SPIRIT OF TEXOMA...NOMINATE THEM NOW.
