Petition to Amend Electra City Charter to be Addressed During Tuesday's Meeting

The Electra City Commission will be presented the petition to amend the town's city charter next week.
The Electra City Commission should receive the petition to amend the town's city charter next week.

Resident Sue Howell started collecting signatures in August.

She says the push by city leaders to remove Johnny Morris as police chief prompted her to gather support and signatures to amend the city's charter to include "initiative, referendum and recall powers."

Those are options she says voters need when  they want to make changes, remove elected officials or call elections in unusual situations.

Electra City Secretary Tracey Lowe says all signatures have been verified and will be presented to city commissioners during Tuesday's meeting.

Commissioners are expected to decide on whether to put the issue on the May ballot.
