ORIGINAL:

A 52 year old Petrolia man is found guilty after about an hour's deliberation for the continuous sexual assault of an 11 year old girl authorities say was given candy and treats in exchange for sex acts.

Testimony in the trial of Norman Lee Olson II ended late Thursday morning and the jury returned a verdict around 2 pm after taking a lunch break.

Prosecution witnesses for the punishment phase took the stand Thursday afternoon, and the state rested.

The jury will begin punishment deliberation Friday. Olson faces 25 to 99 years.

He was arrested in 2013 after the girl's mother was contacted by school officials about possible abuse.

The mother confronted Olson and said he admitted it and that he was going to commit suicide.

However, Olson then disappeared and was not located by authorities until about 6 weeks later, camping in a field off McKinney Road and 287.

The girl said the abuse started in October of 2011 and at first Olson would give her cookies and candy for allowing him to touch her. Then the severity of the abuse increased over time and continued until it was reported to authorities in January of 2013.
