Punishment Expected Tomorrow in Perrigo Trial

David Alan Perrigo Jr. was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a young boy.
A jury finds a 38-year-old Wichita Falls man guilty on two counts in a child sex abuse case.
David Alan Perrigo Jr. is guilty of aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a 6-year-old boy.
Defense attorneys called the defendant's mother to the stand during the presentation of their argument this morning.    She said she hadn't talked to her son about the incident.
But then District Attorney Maureen Shelton called for a recess so Perrigo's mother could listen to a recorded conversation she had with him while he was in jail.
That conversation was dated Feb. 17, just a week and a half ago.
During that conversation, Perrigo said he didn't force the then 6-year-old boy to do what he did to him, but admitted the incident did happen.
Before the judge announced the guilty verdict, the jury heard closing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
Defense attorney Dustin Nimz told the jury they'd be making a big mistake if they found Perrigo guilty of an offense that he claims Perrigo didn't know was going to happen.
In response to the defense's argument, District Attorney Maureen Shelton said Perrigo knew full and well what he was doing.
She said incidents during which a child is sexually abused "don't just happen".
Toward the end of her argument, Shelton acknowledged the incident happened just one time, but she said there's no telling how many other times it could have happened if the boy had not come forward.
The punishment phase of the trial is expected to begin at 8:30 tomorrow morning in the 30th District Court.
