Record Numbers for This Year's Fill the Boot

Record Numbers for This Year's Fill the Boot

Over $66,000 were raised at intersections all over Wichita Falls.
This was the last day of the annual Fill the Boot campaign benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The final tally for this year's fund-raising is over $66,000, making this year's fundraiser the most successful ever.

Firefighters collected that money to honor Melanie Owen of Wichita Falls.

Melanie suffers from ALS, and has given those working a familiar face to fight for.

Firefighter and event coordinator Corky Scarbrough said, "She helped put a face to why we are out here, why we are doing this. I have known her for a long time, but when I found out she had ALS. We wanted to do something for her."

All the money collected will stay local, and will be used to help the MDA find a cure and assist those affected.
