Congressman Mac Thornberry is examining the effects of automatic spending cuts in defense here in Texoma and the U.S.
He spent the day in Wichita Falls touring Tranter, a global engineering and manufacturing group that provides specialized heat transfer units used on navy submarines.
He says if the government makes automatic cuts, places like Tranter, which provides jobs and help build our military will be at risk.
Thornberry says taking funding away from our national security is not the right solution.
"A strong defense prevents problems. And it ensures that if you have one, we're ready to deal with it. Weakness, and a hollow military like we had in the 70's invites problems and we can't afford that ," District 13 Representative, Mac Thornberry said.
He said defense spending is currently declining anyway because of the pullout from Iraq and the decreased presence in Afghanistan.
