The Riverside Cemetery could soon be expanding. The city has been working with EDA,  a consultant company out of Salt Lake City to see if the project is feasible.

They are working on evaluating three things, the expansion site, a business plan, and new options for cemeteries.

“To offer cremation options for the public that seems to be growing quite rapidly on the west coast and likely that would happen here as well,” says Director of Parks and Recreation Jack Murphy.

The city hopes to expand to Cliff Street, but they still need to acquire the rights to 3 properties.

They hope to be able to add a few thousand grave sites since the cemetery has not been able to sell new plots for many years.

EDA's plan will be presented to city council next week. The cemetery would be set up to pay for itself with the plot sales.
