Road Crews Work Hard to Clear Roads, Prep for More Icy Conditions

City and state road crews had their work cut out for them over the weekend and now they are bracing for round two.
City and state road crews had their work cut out for them over the weekend and now they are bracing for round two.

With the low temperatures continuing, some areas are still slick, so it's still important that drivers are extra careful.

Wichita Falls street crews were out Monday continuing to plow areas that were not touched the first time around, trying to get the main roads cleared.

Workers were digging snow out from around storm drains, since much of the melted runoff is off the streets, before refreezing.

The break between storm systems has helped both city crews and TXDOT prepare for more winter weather.

TXDOT crews have been working on clearing some farm roads that still had not been plowed and laying down freeze guard on some roads to try and prevent icy spots for drivers Monday night and Tuesday.

Wichita Falls' street crews have some new technology to keep them on track this winter.

Street Supervisor Larry Krugle explained, "We feed the information to engineering and then they update this map so you can see in areas of blue we've identified the streets. Of course as we do it, it changes to green and that shows are status of how much we got done and acts as a good guide for us to make sure we don't miss streets."

Even though roads seem okay now, the slush that is left is expected to refreeze Monday night. So if you do not have to get out, it is best to stay home. If you do need to travel just remember overpasses and bridges freeze first as well as areas under the overpasses.

Fallsride Public Transportation did not run Monday and officials with the travel center say some Greyhound buses are canceled or delayed. To check on your trip just contact Greyhound for the latest updates: 1-800-231-2222.

American Eagle has also cancelled all their flights Monday and the first flight out Tuesday morning at 7 am. For questions about flights please call 1-800-433-7300. Do not go to the airport to make flight arrangements.
