Ryder Truck Knocks Out Power Line at Patterson KIA Parking Lot

A late Sunday night truck accident knocked out power to part of the Wichita Falls area.
A late night truck accident knocked out power to part of the Wichita Falls area.

It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday night in the 2900 block of Old Jacksboro highway.

Wichita Falls police said the driver and a co-worker of the Ryder truck were coming to replace some batteries off of the AT&T power pole. Officers said the men told them they couldn't get through the parking lot so they tried to pull into the Patterson KIA parking lot, but they didn't see the low hanging wires. That is when the truck clipped the wires and snapped a power pole.

From blocks away officers said they could hear the popping of the electrical wires.

The workers had to stay in the truck until Oncor came on the scene to turn off the power in the area. An hour after the accident, the workers were able to get out of the truck. Medical crews checked out the workers and said they were ok.

Power for residents near the accident scene is expected to remain shut off until 7 a.m. Monday.
