SAFB Airmen Help Build Habitat House in Record Time

A Wichita Falls family is one step closer to owning their very own home.

On Sunday, Habitat for Humanity held a ceremony to dedicate the new home of the River's family.

And it's a home an entire Sheppard Air Force squadron aimed high and finished in just a few weeks.

This is the home that has Tre Rivers more than excited.

"I'm still trying to grasp the term homeowner. I've been wondering when this day would come and here it is," says new homeowner, Tre Rivers.

Almost.

Habitat for Humanity held a dedication ceremony Sunday afternoon for the home, which will will soon make the American dream of becoming a homeowner come true for Tre Rivers and his wife, Tiffanie.

"It's just not dirt anymore. It's a house with a yard and a driveway and everything. So it's really exciting," explains Tiffanie Rivers.

It's also exciting for members of the 362nd Squadron at Sheppard Air Force Base.

More than two dozen of them worked daily to get this house built in record time.

"We started December 6th. We had a break for Christmas and a few stopping points for subcontractors and other things like that and we finished it up somewhere around last week. So, just a shade over a month and a half we got it done," says TSgt.. Michael Corbitt.

Everything from fixtures to a fabulous kitchen to a food drive to stock the Rivers' new pantry.

"We even did a toy drive for L.J., their son, for Christmas and I felt like Santa Claus bringing all the presents out there to him," explains TSgt. Corbitt.

And for this little guy and his parents, Christmas will come once again when the family actually starts moving into this place they'll proudly call home.

Once inspections are completed and some final papers signed the Rivers will be able to move into their new home.

And Habitat officials say that should be in about a month.
