Sheppard Air Force Base is on heightened alert on Thursday evening after base officials got what they say was a credible report of an attempted child abduction near the base youth center.

Sheppard Security Forces locked down the gates and conducted base-wide sector sweeps.

They were working off of a description of the man they were told attempted the abduction as well as a description of the vehicle he was said to be driving.

After thorough sweeps and vehicle searches at the gates, no individuals or vehicles meeting those descriptions were found on base or in the surrounding community.

Base officials say Security Forces will continue to conduct heightened patrols and have issued a "Be On The Lookout" order.

The alleged abductor is described as a white male, about 6'1", possibly with a bruised lip.

He was last seen wearing a white jacket with gray sleeves and white pants and hat.

Base officials say he was driving a small black car with a rear yellow license plate.
