Less than 4- years after it was established, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy has already raised more than 60- thousand dollars.

During its appreciation dinner Tuesday evening at the Maskat Shrine Center, members of the community and media were honored who've helped in the academy's efforts to raise money that will go toward building a memorial for fallen deputies and volunteer firefighters of Wichita County.

The Wichita County Citizen's Academy is designed to give people insight into the workings of their sheriff's office.

So, if you've ever wondered what the jail looks like, or what it's like to drive a squad car, or maybe clear a house like a SWAT team, just give Deputy Melvin Joyner a call.

His number during business hours is 716-8676.

You can also stop by the Wichita County Sheriff's Office to pick up an application.
