Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Abilene

Shortly before noon, a passenger jet headed from Dallas Love Field to Albuquerque, NM declared an in-flight emergency and landed safely at Abilene Regional Airport.
Shortly before noon, a passenger jet headed from Dallas Love Field to Albuquerque, NM declared an in-flight emergency and landed safely at Abilene Regional Airport.

The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

The plane was taxied to the terminal where first-responders inspected the inside of the plane and revoked the emergency status.

The Abilene Fire Department was dismissed, though the airport's fire department remained on scene.

First responders say the cockpit showed no signs of smoke.

A replacement plane is being sent and should arrive around 2 p.m. to continue passengers on their journey to Albuquerque, NM.
