Community grieves in wake of school shooting that left teacher dead.
(NBC News) Police in Sparks, Nevada are investigating the tragic shooting that happen there Monday when a student opened fire at a middle school killing a teacher, wounding two students and then later taking his own life.

Police are still searching for a motive.

The shooting happen outside the school before first period yesterday while students were still arriving after a week-long break.

Police say the shooter was armed with a semi-automatic hand gun.

Twenty to thirty people witnessed the shooting and many credit teacher Mike Landsberry with stepping in, risking his own life to save others.

"He was telling the kid to stop and put the gun down and the kid yelled out "no" like yelling at him and then he shot him," said witness Jose Cazares.

"I'm very very grateful for what he did, just grateful he was there to help out," said Marisela Cazares.

Lansberry died at the scene two other students were shot, one was hit in the abdomen, one in the shoulder.

Police say both are expected to survive.

Classes at Sparks Middle School are canceled for the rest of the week.
