Special Olympians Take on Nighthawks for Weekend Fundraiser

"Super Stars Bowl" is Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Area Special Olympics athletes are going head-to head with the Wichita Falls Nighthawks for a special fundraiser this weekend.

"Super Stars Bowl" will feature a chili cook-off and a football game between the Nighthawks and Special Olympics athletes.

Mike Strickland, Special Olympics area director, says, "Allowing our athletes to have the chance of a lifetime to be on the field and play with some of the nighthawks players and some of our female athletes getting the chance of a lifetime to be on the sidelines cheering on with some of the nighthawks cheerleaders."

Jerry Hughes, owner and general manager of the Nighthawks, says, "You realize how quickly these people just love life and, I mean, what a good thing to rub off on us and our athletes. Trust me, it's more beneficial for us than it is even for their athletes."

"Super Stars Bowl" is Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Gates open at 10:30 a.m.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m.

It'll cost you $10 to get through the gates.

Kids five and under get in free.

All the proceeds benefit Special Olympics Texas.
