This past week the old high soccer team did something they haven't done since 2003, win a playoff game. Not only that, but they did it against a team that they lost to just a year ago.
For the coyotes soccer team, this year has been all about proving that they belong. And in their playoff win against Aledo., they did just that. And according to head coach Patrick McCauley, "this year has been a year of breaking streaks. Two thousand three was the last playoff win. I told the guys if they did something big that people at the school and people in this town would remember their names."
One name that's been big for the coyotes all year is Daniel Tays. Old High's leading goal scorer, who had two goals in their 3-1 playoff win. Coach McCauley says Tays is a huge asset, "we have three or four kids that are scoring ten or twelve. Daniel is one of those kids. And if you watch Daniel is one of those kids that just finds himself in the right place at the right time."
And according to Tays, beating Aledo was huge for the team's confidence, "after the game it was big. We were all happy and excited that we went down there and got the win."
And Senior Pedro Reza sasy when their goalie went down just before halftime, it provided the extra motivation they needed to get over the top, "at halftime when we were losing coach told us don't let it be the las time we play with these guys. That motivated us and then Daniel scored two goals and we defended well in the second half and came out with the big win."
But the Coyotes say now that they have a taste of playoff victory, they only want more. They say the icing on the cake would be taking out a Birdville team that beat them last year to advance.
