Team of the Week December 26th, 2013: Midwestern State Women's Basketball

After a slow start to the season, the Midwestern State women's basketball team has gotten things together.
They have won 5 straight and 7 of their last 8 games.
The turnaround has led the Mustangs to our team of the week award.
MSU entered the season ranked in the top ten in the preseason as well as the team picked to win the Lone Star Conference.
But a 1-2 beginning to the season was tough on the team.
Improvement in rebounding and team chemistry has led the Mustangs to a 5 game winning streak going into the Christmas break.
"We are 8-0 when we out rebound people. It is allowing us not to be so precise on offense. Because we are getting second and third possessions. And defensively it is allowing us to make some mistakes but we make up for it by controlling the rebounding game and controlling what happens on those 50-50 balls," said MSU Head Womens Basketball Coach Noel Johnson.
"We started off a little rough but now we are seing where everyone is going to be and so we took sometime to see what route everyone is running and now it is flowing more," said MSU Junior Forward Andrea Carter.
"I think we are relaxing and playing. I think we felt pressure from last year people are expecting stuff from us. And now we just need to play like we know how to play an forget about what people expect and do what we know how to do," said MSU Senior Guard Kirsti Degelia.
After this great run going 8-3 in their non conference schedule, they get a little bit of a break of for the Christmas holiday, but come January the attention turns to Lone Star Conference play.
"I think we play better in conference play. We have more motivation. We did it before and we have those rivalries and it is just a regular season and get going and going two games a week instead of the long breaks so I think we are ready for it,"said Degelia.
"I think we are ready for conference. I think once we get through this break. We are just trying to prepare for the conference play," said Carter.
Johnson says her team is a joy to be around.
"They are fun to coach. They are a joy to be around. They work hard every day. I appreciate that. Because they come and work hard for me. They do make it fun to coach them," said Johnson.
