Teen Now Charged with First-Degree Murder in Chris Lane Death

17-year-old Michael Jones, originally charged with using a vehicle while a weapon was discharged, is now charged with first degree murder.
One of three defendants arrested after an Australian baseball player was gunned down in Duncan is now charged with first-degree murder.

Michael Jones, 17, was originally charged with use of a vehicle in discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact for the murder of 22-year-old Chris Lane, but now that case has been dismissed.

In what was suppose to be Jones' preliminary hearing Wednesday, Stephens County District Attorney Jason Hicks charged Jones with first-degree murder.

Hicks said they changed the charges because they believe Jones was involved in two other shootings.

One just prior to Lane's murder and another the night before.

Lane had a college baseball scholarship to East Central University and was staying with his girlfriend's family in Duncan when he was shot and killed while on a jog in August.

Police say Jones told officers they killed Lane because they were "bored."

With Jones' new charge, now all three teens are charged with first degree murder.

Jones and James Edwards, 15, and Chancey Luna, 16,  are being held in the Stephens County jail with no bond.

Their preliminary hearings are set for November 20th.
