Texans Pack the Stores for Tax Free Weekend

People all over Texas packed the stores for tax free weekend.
It's almost time for school to start and families all over Texas took advantage of tax free weekend to stock up on all of those back to school necessities.

People started packing retail stores on Friday to get their shop on before the shopping holiday ends on Sunday night.

Most clothes and shoes costing less than 100 dollars were exempt from state and local sales taxes.

Backpacks and school supplies are also included on the tax free list.

Texoma retailers say this is one of their busiest times of the year, even busier then most major holidays.

Kids all over Texoma are getting excited as they shop for their back to school clothes and school supplies.

"I got some pencils and scissors and some glue sticks, actually four," Sam Gilmore from Archer City says.

"Shirts, jeans and tennis shoes," Makayla Hoff from Wichita Falls says as she shared with us her back to school shopping list.

One special sale brought people from all over Texas together not only to shop, but also to give back to the community.

"It's just friends helping friends is kind of how we feel about it," Just Between Friends organizer Paula Hutto says.

This is the 6th year that Paula and her family have hosted the just between friends sale at the MPEC.

Clothes, books and toys from families around Texoma are the main sale items, and all tax free.

But this event is more then just a sale.

"We choose to donate what's left over, what doesn't sell and give it to local charities. They'll come in on Monday and take what they need and it all goes back into the community," Janeen Mills, a volunteer, says.

That's why Mills says she volunteers year after year with the just between friends sale, to be able to see dozens of kids find all of their back to school clothes for a good price, and also to see those in need clothed with all of the items they donate.

"It just really makes you feel good. Gives you a warm fuzzy," Hutto says.

The next Just Between Friends sale will be in March and they are always accepting clothes from families in the area.

Once again, everything that doesn't get sold will go to charity.
