A Texoma native and the only police officer and chief of a small town just south of Waco is shot and killed.

According to the Waco/Temple NBC station, KCEN, Little River-Academy's police chief Lee Dixon, who is originally from Olney, was shot and killed by a man Thursday evening.

Dixon was called out to check on reports of a man with a gun. Dixon is said to have found the man and asked if he needed help. A few minutes later, Dixon called for backup and shortly after a call came in for a shooting. Authorities were able to apprehend the suspect at the scene.

Dixon's wife, who is a police officer in a nearby town, showed up at the scene of the shooting as well.

Bell County has tragically lost four officers in the past year: two Killeen officers, one sheriff's deputy, and now Dixon.
