Texoma Runners Head to Boston

Two people from Altus prepare to run in this year's Boston Marathon and reflect on past experiences at the race.

Earlier this week the nation marked the anniversary of a tragic event, the Boston Marathon bombing.

The somber occasion honored the three lives and the 260 others wounded.

The 118th Boston marathon will be Monday.

From Texoma, two runners from Altus will head back this year for the second time to experience a race they believe will be even better than before.

Stephanie Lundeby, 31, has been down this road before.

Every training run had a purpose, very focused, wanting it to be the best experience it could be and really be in the moment of the race,” she said.

She completed that race and less than an hour later, tragedy struck

It was really hard and mixed emotions, one you are ecstatic you just finished this great race, you really just pushed through...,” she trailed off.

The memory of that day moves her to tears, But it won't stop her from going back again.

I feel sad for the people who didn't get to finish, you feel sorry for the people who were either directly affected by it either by their family members or they themselves were injured. It's such a joyous experience to have someone take that from everybody because of such a selfish act and I think that's why I really want to go back. One because it's Boston, you want to go back but two, because you want to say hey you, you can't take this from us. This is our experience. This is what we do. We come together. You can't take our pride you can't take that pleasure from us and we are going to show you, “ she said.

Jeff Greenlee will also race Monday in Boston after his first run in 2012.

He's looking forward to seeing the same Boston he remembers, only stronger.

I think it just strengthened them together. I don't think there was a doubt in anybody's mind that they would come back this year and that they would make it stronger and show their strength and their unity,” he said.

Both runners say while in Boston they plan to visit the memorial for those who died last year.
