After a significant improvement in unemployment in Texas and Texoma last month, jobless numbers are on the rise again. This brings into question whether the economy is on the rebound. Unemployment numbers had been stabilizing and dropping for several months, but rates in almost all areas of Texas rose last month. In Texoma, Wichita County Unemployment rose to 6.5%, the highest of counties in our area. For the Wichita Falls metropolitan statistical area of Wichita, Clay and Archer counties, unemployment rose to 6.3 percent last month from below 6% the month before. Last may the level was almost 7% for the city of Wichita Falls alone, unemployment was 6.7% in May, up from 6.2% in April. For the North Texas region, unemployment rose from 5.5.% in April to 5.8% last month. The unemployment rate for the entire state rose to 6.9% from 6.5% the month before. The lowest rate was in the oil boom area of Midland and the highest rate was the McAllen area. The lowest rate in our area was Jack county's 4.5%.
