The Renaissance at The Forum Nearing Completion

The Renaissance at The Forum Nearing Completion

Nearly $2.5 million dollars in renovations continue at one of Wichita Falls' most historic buildings.
Renovations at the Kemp at The Forum are right on schedule.

Carlana Fitch, CEO of the Arts Council, says, "The entry way is almost completed. The skylights are in place. The flooring is being put down as we speak. We're probably right at 93 to 95 percent complete."

There are even new patio areas, both in the front and the back.

Fitch says the renovations will simply bring the inside of the building up-to-date.

"The building has such beautiful bones and structure and we were able to preserve all that," she says.

There are only a few more loose ends to tie.

"We have to, of course, finish painting, doors have to be hung," Fitch says. "Restroom fixtures have to be finished being put in, carpeting, as I said, has to be laid. And then, of course, the terrazzo flooring has to be shined and polished so it will look new again."

Officials say they'll make sure the building keeps the same character for which it's known.

"The people that drive by it and haven't seen it for a long time are not going to say, 'Oh my word. What did they do to that building?' It will still blend in really nicely, but the interior is going to be a real dream to behold," Fitch says.

All the renovations should be complete within the next month.

The first event at the refurbished building will be the Marcia Ball concert on April 12.

By the way, organizers also say that "The Dutchess at The Forum," an eatery opened by Sheppard wives from The Netherlands, will not be reopening.

One of the owners will be moving back to The Netherlands.
