The Waurika City Commission Won't Renew City Manager's Contract

The Waurika City Commission by unanimous vote in a special meeting Tuesday afternoon voted not to renew City Manager Chuck Brown's contract.
The Waurika City Commission by unanimous vote in a special meeting Tuesday afternoon voted not to renew City Manager Chuck Brown's contract.

A city official says the city sent notification by certified mail to Brown today that his contract will not be renewed.

Brown will remain on paid administrative leave with full benefits until June 30. This action will allow the city to begin the process of looking for a new manager.

No public reason has been given for the decision not to rehire Brown, who has been city manager 7 years.

In early March, Waurika city commissioners voted to fire Brown. But a few days later the council met again and rescinded that action, hired Brown Back, and then put him on 90-day paid administrative leave.

Brad Scott, a retired insurance agent, will continue acting as the part-time interim city manager and City Treasurer Nancy Bluml is serving as assistant city manager.
