A third suspect has now been charged in connection with the armed robbery of the McNiel Avenue Whataburger and some of its customers last summer.
The suspect also is charged in the robbery and shooting at a convenience store a few days later. 22-year-old Melvin Steven Murphy is charged with 2 counts of aggravated robbery with combined bond of $4 million.
Also charged in that robbery are 21-year-old Kadeem Emmers, and the alleged getaway driver, 24-year-old Cristin Murphy. Officers say two masked men robbed the Whataburger on McNiel on June 27th, one carrying a shotgun or rifle.
The pair took cash from employees and purses and wallets from customers, and one threatened to shoot the manager. Melvin Murphy and Emmers are also charged with the robbery of the Stripes at 2200 Southwest Parkway on July 2nd.
Police say a gun similar to the one in the Whataburger restaurant was used. Police say Emmers told authorities Murphy drove him to and from the Stripes robbery and that Murphy told them it was Emmers who fired a shot at a witness trying to get a vehicle description. Emmers is also charged with a 7-11 robbery.
