U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry says he is monitoring the BLM actions and soliciting comments and concerns from constituents.
U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry says he is monitoring the BLM actions and soliciting comments and concerns from constituents.

He says he has also expressed his concerns to the BLM field manager in Tulsa, asking the BLM to take no action that would expand its management or control of any land south of the Texas-Oklahoma border.

In its response to Thornberry's letter, the BLM Tulsa field manager stated the purpose of the environmental impact statement is to develop recommendations for management of federal and Indian lands and minerals.

He also listed 5 primary, short-term goals of the solicitation of public input:

-To install signs designating federal boundaries on previously surveyed federal land near the Highway 79 bridge

-Planning a day-long clean up of federal land

-Assigning federal officers to patrol the area to monitor whether the signs are being respected

-Working with the two states on a proposed bridge replacement that would require federal right of way

-Assisting to clean up old oil field equipment dating back to 1920 or older on federal land
