Thornberry Supports Sending National Guard to Texas Border

Governor Rick Perry is planning to send 10,000 National Guard troops to the Texas border to help with border control.
Thirteenth District Congressman Mac Thornberry says he thinks deploying National Guard troops to the border is the right decision despite the hefty price tag.

It's expected to cost the State of Texas about $12-million per month and Thornberry says that will be money well spent as the Border Patrol is stretched thin dealing with the tens-of-thousands of children who've come across the Texas border since the first of the year.

"Sending the National Guard there helps free the Border patrol to do their job while the National Guardsmen can help take care of the kids and deal with the humanitarian disaster of this that they are very well trained to do," Thornberry says. "That's what they do in hurricanes and other disasters, and they are trained to do that."

Thornberry says Border Patrol agents will then be able to get out on the border, which is where he sees we need them most.
