A freight train derailed outside Baltimore on Tuesday afternoon, sending a huge plume of smoke billowing from flaming wreckage.

Hazardous-materials crews were dispatched to the crash site in Rosedale, Md., NBC affiliate WBAL reported. Several cars from the CSX train were off the tracks, and it appeared some adjacent buildings were damaged.

No injuries have been reported and the cause was unknown.

Amtrak said the derailment and fire did not happen on tracks that used by passenger trains and its schedule was unaffected.
