Two Injured in Oil Field Accident

An oil field accident in Clay County sends two people to the hospital.

An explosion at an oil field south of Henrietta leaves two men with severe burns.

The accident happened a little after 2 p.m.on Tuesday, just off FM 1883 and South Myers Road.

Bluegrove Volunteer Fire Chief Ernest Seigler says two men, a father and son, were working on a tank battery using a cutting torch when the battery blew up.

Seigler says a man, described as a man in his 50's, received severe burns to his body.

"It was pretty bad on the older guy," Seigler says. "It burned all the hide off his face, neck, arms and shoulders. "He was having trouble breathing."

Seigler says the second man, described as a man in his 20's, received burns to a hand, arm and torso.

Both men were airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Seigler says the Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
