USSSA Summer Slam Tournament Brings Many to Wichita Falls

The USSSA Summer Slam Baseball Tournament has brought thousands of people to Wichita Falls this weekend.
Thousands are in Wichita Falls this weekend for this year's Summer Slam 2K14 Baseball Tournament.

This is the sixth year that the Wichita Falls Sports Complex has hosted this USSSA baseball tournament.

Teams from all over Texas and parts of Oklahoma came out to participate and this year the winners took home a special prize, championship rings.

There were 28 teams that participated this weekend and organizers say with so many teams participating this year Wichita Falls hotels sold out, sending several teams to stay in hotels in surrounding cities like Burkburnett.

"Based on all these teams that are coming from the metroplex and west Texas, the economic impact in Wichita Falls is outrageous. The CVB has provided us with different figures and it's up close to the millions," Stephen Cruz," USSSA baseball director.

Cruz said the event is also very special for kids from Wichita Falls who participated.

There were twelve local teams and he said this tournament gives kids in Wichita Falls a chance to play competitive baseball rather than just the normal little league style.
