Veterans Get Thanked This Fourth of July

It's been weeks in the making, and today on this Fourth of July holiday, staff at several Wichita Falls senior citizen communities thanked our nation's veterans in a special way.  Organizers asked community members to go online and fill out a form, which was made into a card to thank veterans for their service to our country.
Staff members at Presbyterian Manor, Perkins-Prothro healthcare, and House of Hope want their veteran residents to know how much their service to our country is appreciated.
Jerri Thomas, the marketing director for the three communities, says, "The Fourth of July is a great time to do that.  As Americans, we're thinking about our freedoms and the things we're thankful for."
So they asked for your help in submitting online messages that were turned into cards and delivered those to veterans this Fourth of July.
Abby Jones, who delivered cards to veterans today, says, "We're making other people happy and we're giving them a good Fourth of July instead of only thinking about giving ourselves a good Fourth of July."
Brooke Altman, who also helped in delivering the cards, says, "They think that it's really amazing that two little girls show up at their door giving them thank you cards for serving."
Organizers say their goal was 300 cards, but they surpassed that goal.
Each of the about 60 veterans who live at the locations received several cards a piece.
Thanks to the success of the program this year, organizers say they hope they can make it an yearly tradition.
