A 79-year-old Central Texas woman who led authorities through at least 3 counties is listed in good condition at United Regional.

It happened just after 8 Tuesday night when she ran out of gas north of Throckmorton. Baylor County Sheriff Bob Elliott says she was stopped in the middle of 183 and several people stopped to put gas in her car.

After they did, officials say she took off at a high rate of speed. Archer County authorities used spike stripes -- but only one tire blew. At one point the woman was driving the wrong way on US 82, but Sheriff Elliott says they were able to guide her back into the right lanes.

Elliott says she was forced off the road at 369 and Kell. She was then taken to the hospital.

Authorities say the woman is from Canyon Lake and is a retired army sergeant major. She does have several medical conditions and no charges are expected to be filed.
