Water Fines on the Rise in Wichita Falls

The number of Wichita Falls residents being cited for violating the water restrictions is climbing with the spring temperature.

Since Stage 3 restrictions were announced February 6 the city has issued 276 citations.

Of those, only 29 were issued from February 6th to March 20th.

Utility Operations Manager Daniel Nix says the majority of the violations were called in by residents who spotted illegal watering.

You can report violations by calling 761-7477.

While the number of violations is rising, the amount of water being used by residents is declining from previous years.

From October of last year to this past March, water use declined about 350 million gallons from the average of past year.
