Water Restored at Dozens of Homes after Water Main Leak Wednesday

Officials say a water main leak forced them to shut off water for dozens of Wichita Falls homes Wednesday.
Dozens of Wichita Falls homes that were without water all day yesterday now have water again.

City officials say there was a water main leak in the pipes along Taft.

Crews had to shut off the water, which affected many households in that area.

Water was turned off around 9 a.m. yesterday and was kept off for the remainder of the day while crews tried to find that leak.

Area residents say that affected their plans for the day.

Dwight Ross, whose home didn't have water, says, "We didn't get water back until overnight, so we just went out to eat and drank water bottles all night."

Crews were eventually able to find that leak, but the problem was that it was located in a hand dig only zone, which officials say is why it took so long to repair.

They say there are older pipes in that area, so the age of the pipes combined with very cold temperatures caused that pipe to crack.

Water was restored around 3 this morning.
