It's tough for many small business to survive against big chains these days.
Just look how many small neighborhood groceries have disappeared.
But one Wichita Falls store has survived decade after decade, generation of family owner after another and will soon be honored for its staying power.
Owner NaDonna Norriss' great grandfather opened Davenport Grocery on Farris Street 87 years ago.
And because the family has kept the doors open for nearly nine decades it will receive a double honor tomorrow-- a Texas Treasure Business Award, which honors businesses that provide employment and support the state's economy for 50 years or more and a Texas Historical Marker.
Norriss is excited about the honor and says she's never considered doing anything else.
"I've always been here and this is home to me. The customers are like family and I enjoy being here," Norriss says.
The dedication of the historical marker and presentation of the state treasure business award is tomorrow at 10 a.m.
