WFISD: Elementary Student in Custody after Bringing Large Knife to School

A WFISD student remains in custody after school officials say they brought a large knife to school.
A 5th grade student at a Wichita Falls elementary school remains in custody Tuesday night, after authorities say the student brought a large knife to school in their backpack.
According to an automated message to parents Tuesday night, West Foundation principal Kim Smith says another student brought it to a teacher's attention and the child and backpack were removed from the classroom.
The student was then taken into custody by authorities.
Police say in situations where a minor is taken into custody, the child is then turned over to juvenile authorities.
District officials say the police are now leading the investigation and will determine what happens from here.
