WFISD Facilities Could Be Updated in Future Years

The Wichita Falls ISD board met Tuesday and discussed potential, future plans for several facilities.
The Wichita Falls ISD board discussed several facilities that need updates and even a few they say need to be completely redone, even if a bond issue is not proposed or approved.

First they mentioned the three high school and junior high model that still exists in Wichita Falls.

While board members say they support the decision of voters not to combine Rider and Old High, they say they still need to find more money to update and possibly expand the individual schools.

"Being able to make some accommodations within our facilities using the school district budget and not dependent upon a bond election and what small modifications can be made and that point, so that too is another ongoing discussion that the board will continue to have over the summer months," Renae Murphy with the Wichita Falls ISD said.

Board members mentioned possible updates to Rider High School, and adding a freshman center in the future.

They also discussed Jefferson and Lamar elementary schools, saying those buildings at some point need to be completely redone.

Stadium renovations were mentioned as well. However board members say updating the safety and security at the schools is the first priority.

Now the board also talked about getting the old Zundy Jr. High building ready for the new elementary students in the fall.

Those plans will be discussed in more detail Monday night and later on this summer.
