The Wichita Falls Police Department will soon see some new equipment to help them protect and serve.

Councilors accepted about $100,000 dollars in grants for the police department.

A STEP grant will help with traffic enforcement. It's designed to help with things such as speed and intersection traffic enforcement. Most traffic enforcement is done during the day because of school zones, but the grant will pay officers overtime so they can enforce traffic violations in the evening as well.

The grant totals about $88,000 dollars.

This will be the 5th year the Wichita Falls Police Department could cash in on that grant. The second grant is applied for each year and this year will give about $21,000 dollars to the WFPD.

The department intends to use those funds for tools such as tasers, shields for swat that needs to be upgraded and communication sets for the dive team, something the team has never had.
