Wichita Christian School is commemorating its 50th anniversary by holding a celebration each month throughout the year.

This month, the faculty and students celebrated with a time capsule.

Students from each grade level contributed items in the capsule during a special gathering this afternoon in the school gym.

Items included 2013 coins, postage stamps, a magazine and a Wichita Christian athletic jersey.

School officials say the 11th grade class decided to show just how important one piece of technology is in 2013, so they contributed a cell phone.

"They're anticipating that we will not have cell phones in 25 years. They think that we're gonna go multi-media crazy and not even have cell phone anymore," says Karen Pipes, elementary principal at Wichita Christian.

The time capsule will be displayed in the entry way of Wichita Christian's K through 12 campus and will be opened at the school's 75th anniversary in 2037.
