Wichita Co. D.A.'s Office Displays K2 Seizure from Two of Nine Stores Raided

The Wichita County District Attorney's Office displayed packages of synthetic marijuana, also known on the street as K2, and nearly half a million dollars inside the Wichita County Annex building.
Two days after a sting operation leads to the arrest of nine people at six Wichita Falls stores for selling synthetic marijuana, officials put some of the confiscated items on display.

Friday afternoon, investigators displayed packages of synthetic marijuana, also known on the street as K2, and nearly half a million dollars inside the Wichita County Annex building. They say it all came from just two of the six raided stores.

The Wichita County District Attorney says the colorful packages contain chemicals that if smoked just once can cause brain damage or even death. And the D.A. showed off this display to actually help parents.

"I hope they see the packaging and see if there's any of that packaging in their child's room or hidden then they know there's an issue and they might want to contact Helen Farabee or one of the drug treatment facilities," says Maureen Shelton, district attorney for Wichita County," says Maureen Shelton, Wichita County district attorney.

Shelton says most of the synthetic marijuana buyers are teens and young adults in their 20's. Possession of K2 is a felony but Shelton says making arrest can be hard because as soon as the legislature passes  a law making a chemical composition illegal drug makers change the composition.

On Wednesday officials arrested nine people in the synthetic marijuana sting, which D.A. Shelton says started in late May.

She says all of the people arrested are owners or employees at the raided Wichita Falls stores and sold K2 to undercover officers on numerous occasions. Officials also say this investigation is still ongoing with additional charges and arrests expected.
