The Wichita County Judge says his office now has more than 500 applications for a storm shelter rebate program.
Judge Woody Gossom says the Moore, Oklahoma tornado sparked interest in the program, which will reimburse qualifying homeowners up to $3,000 who install a storm shelter.
Wichita County has approval for 200 shelters but Judge Gossom says they're actually able to help several more applicants.
"We get a slight increase in that because not everyone spends their $3,000. So, we are able to carry a few of those over," says Judge Gossom.
Gossom says although he's waiting to see if the state will approve funding for an additional 200 shelters applications are still being accepted.
