Construction continues at the Wichita County courthouse, and as some projects wrap up, others are in the works.

County commissioner Bill Presson says the steps at the older part of the courthouse are being worked on now because they've started leaking.

The county also hopes to soon be redoing three offices.

They'd like crews to work on the county clerk, district clerk and tax assessor's offices this year to make them more accessible to the public.

There are also plans to renovate two parking lots around the courthouse.

“The parking is somewhat antiquated this will give us a chance to revamp that, we look at the Scott Street parking lot that we did and that parking lot is absolutely full of folks that use the Scott Street annex, so the need is there, we're working on that, the plans in fact are underway,” says Commissioner Presson.

All the money for the construction work is from the county's permanent improvement fund, which has not collected tax money in a few years.
