Wichita County Prosecutor, Ed Lane, Retires

Lane worked in the DA's Office for 27 years.
Family, friends, and fellow Wichita County workers say "good luck" to a man who has worked in the Wichita County District Attorney's Office for nearly three decades.

Ed Lane worked as a prosecutor in the DA's Office for 27 years.  He says the best part of his job was getting justice for the victims.  Lane says one of his most memorable cases was the Fred Palmer murder, for which Mark Anthony Smith received the maximum prison sentence.

Lane says, "The family was brokenhearted over it and was just shattered.  They really wanted the case prosecuted, so I said, 'Sure.  We'll go try it.'  The defense offered a plea for something like 20 years to a lesser offense, but we tried it and we had a great jury that came through and gave him a life sentence, the maximum."

Lane says he plans to take some time off before going back to work.  He hopes to continue practicing law and also plans to continue working for the law enforcement online site, The Examiner.
