Tuesday morning, Wichita Falls city councilors voted to approve a water rate increase.

The water rate, not other services on your monthly bill, is now increased by 53 percent.

The city says for the average customer who uses about 6 units a month or about 4,500 gallons, their water bill will go up about 14 dollars.

So if you pay 26 dollars for water, you will be paying about 40 dollars.

City officials say even with the increase, water users are paying less than one penny for 3 gallons of water.

The rate increase takes effect immediately.
